I can't remember how I downloaded the HP Easy Scan, but I believe it was via the Apple App Store, just like the Smart App (also might have been able to download through the Smart App?). I've had my current MacBook Pro since the M1 release (Nov 2021) and I was able to install the HP Smart app along with a separate HP Easy Scan.
